ABOUT THE SPORTS BROADCASTING CAMP

The Nation's Premier Sports Broadcasting Camp!

The Sports Broadcasting Camp, founded in 2001 and now the nation's longest running sportscasting camp, has a new home. We are moving to Seton Hall University! We will utilize the state-of-the-art Pirate TV studios, multi-camera production studios, WSOU radio faciliites and so much more.  The camp is intended for students ages 10-19.

Hours:

July 28-31(Monday-Thursday): 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at our NEW home - Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ
August 1 (Friday): 4-9 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark, Somerset, NJ

Campers participate in one of three programs (automatically slotted at registration):

  • ROOKIE CAMP:  Campers 10-11. Includes age-appropriate camp activities mixed with our traditional program.

  • ORIGINAL CAMP:  For 23 years we have set the standard with our mix of TV, podcasting, radio activities and speakers.

  • ADVANCED CAMP:  For older and repeat campers. Take your skills to the next level!

Over the last 23 years we have hosted a "who's who" of leading national and local sportscasters as our teachers, team captains, and guest speakers (list below). Our programs are a perfect mix of actually recording sports broadcast projects and learning the tricks of the trade from sportscast industry leaders. And we will end the week with our campers doing on-camera stand-ups at TD Bank Ballpark where they will do play-by-play of the New York Yankees' AA Somerset Patriots game.

Our History

Sports Broadcasting

Former college sports information and TV professional David Siroty founded The Sports Broadcasting Camp in 2001

We spent our first 15 years at the Yogi Berra Museum in Little Falls, New Jersey led by broadcasters Ian Eagle and Bruce Beck. Now led by sports broadcasting veterans Dave Popkin, Tim Capstraw and Craig D'Amico, we transitioned to Montclair State University's School of Communication and this year are moving to Seton Hall University where will will utilize the world-class Pirate TV studio hubs, TV production facility and WSOU radio studio.

Longtime Camp Director Dave Popkin has called games on over a dozen national TV and radio national networks. He is in his 21st year on the Seton Hall Basketball radio team, is the Voice of Northeast Conference hoops on CBS Sports Network and SNY, calls select Buffalo Bisons Triple A baseball games on ESPN 1520, college soccer and baseball on FS1, and various sports on ESPN3/ESPN+. He has also been an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University.

Longtime Brooklyn Nets WFAN radio color commentator Tim Capstraw joins Pop as the lead instructor.  Capper has not missed a Nets game in more than 21 years! He has significant TV experience on NBA TV, YES, MSG, CBS Sports Network, and more. Capper is a former Division I player and head coach in both basketball and baseball at Wagner College. His youth coaching, camp experience and upbeat personality allow him to make a great connection with the students. He has been an adjunct professor at St. John's University.
